Every day we put ourselves in harm’s way as we live in the
second most earthquake prone state in the contiguous 48. The `94 Northridge quake is among many
memorable ones. But we have
learned from each one and today we have countless laws and codes to build
earthquake-proof buildings to mostly withstand them.
Haiti has not been so fortunate. Ranked as the poorest country in the western hemisphere,
Haiti's GDP is 1/160th the size of the state of California. Corruption, poverty and complete
dependence on unreliable elements, Haiti's past has been rocky to say the
least.
Out of this horrific natural disaster there is a glimpse of
hope for Haiti as the world rallies behind this small country. Food, supplies, doctors, water and aid
have been sent from countries all over the world. In our very own communities people are donating money,
organizing events and collecting various items to send.
In particular, Sports Chalet has teamed up with Soles4Souls
and is asking for any gently worn men's, women's, and children's shoes to
donate to the survivors of the earthquake. If you have any shoes at home that you no longer wear,
please consider donating. It can be
any type of shoe... flip flops, loafers, boots, sneakers... but please no
stilettos.
PSULA is excited to participate in Soles4Soles now through
